BEWBC May 20th wine event - Walla Walla wines

The May 20th Wine Event will be at Fortunato’s in Woodinville http://www.countrycottagewines.com/ at 7pm. Joel Waite will introduce us to the Walla Walla wines and the Walla Walla wine industry. Joel is the wine maker for the Waite family that recently started CAVU cellars. CAVU Cellars is located at the Walla Walla airport in the incubator complex. We will also have the opportunity to compare the Walla Walla AVA wines to wines from the Horse Heaven Hills AVA and the Colombia Valley AVA.

The Walla Walla AVA http://www.washingtonwine.org/washington-wine/regions-avas/walla_walla_valley.php lies within the larger Columbia Valley Appellation. The Walla Walla wine region includes land in both Washington and Oregon—from the far southeast corner of Washington State to the Northeast tip of Oregon. In October 2009, more than 100 wineries called Walla Walla home. Although almost all Walla Walla wineries are located in Washington, vineyards are in both states.

The Walla Walla AVA is interesting in part because the geologic past of the Walla Walla valley http://www.whitman.edu/geology/LocalGeo.html is riddled with cataclysmic events that have contributed to today’s fine grape-growing soils. Please join us at this event! RSVP would be appreciated but please attend anyway. Guests are welcome.
