Find out what is going on with the beer side of our club here.  We'll post all of the upcoming meeting notices.

You can always check our Calendar for the most complete list of what is happening.

We will be enjoying some of the following activities:

* Competition Updates and Deadlines
* Beer on the Fly (be ready to both drink some brew and consider if you want to volunteer to be the next BoTFly)
* Style Sherpa will be Sherpa-ing
* Problem Beers: If ye be brave, bring a beer that you're not thrilled with and you want honest and constructive feedback on. Don't be afraid. This won't hurt...much.

See you at 7:00pm on Friday at Lake Desire Clubhouse!  Hopefully I will have less of the dumb by then.

However, I make no promises.

See you at Lake Desire Clubhouse on the third Friday of the month!

January.  A time for fresh starts, fresh commitments and fresh beer.  You are what makes this club great.  So come and volunteer.  And come and vote.  There are no mail in ballots.  First off, a big round of applause for the 2018 regime and all their glorious service. NHC. Beerstock.  Presentations. Moving club gear. Novembeerfest.  More beer at meetings than you can shake a mash paddle at. And to you as well.  FeBr. BotFly. Entering and doing well in competitions. Gallons of great homebrew and tons of food at the meetings. 2019 will be great year for the Alers!

'Sup:
  • Style Sherpa - The Sherpa will be bringing a style.  And it will be good. Most likely it will have malt and hops.  I have been sworn to secrecy *or* I already forgot what he told me.
  • Indoor Flaming Chainsaw Juggling - This will be spectacular.  Wait, this just in, our rental fee doesn't cover that.  OK, scratch this one from the agenda
  • BotFly - Some terrible scribe lost his notes or never took them.  But there will be a beer on the fly presented and you should consider doing one!
  • Elections - Let the mud slinging begin!  OK, we're a pretty gregarious bunch, no mud slinging, but plenty of chop busting is likely to occur.  In all seriousness, the future of the club is in your hands.  Wield the power wisely.
  • Post Election Gala - After the election the newly elected officials invite you to eat any food that is left and to drink any beer that is left in celebration.

As always, check out the Impaling Aler's website to see our calendar of events. See you at Lake Desire Clubhouse on Friday Jan 18. 7:00pm.

Hard to believe the year is winding down, Christmas is nigh and New Year's is around the corner.  That can only mean two things.  Massive beer auction and elections next month.  Or perhaps, a wee bit more ...
  • Style Sherpa - The Sherpa has fled to the Fijian islands for warmer weather and to hunt down rare indigenous brewing ingredients and techniques.  However, he has caught some off flavors in the wild to try prior to his fleeing frenzy and his duly appointed deputy will present.
  • Beer Auction - The last of the beer from JNPSPA will be auctioned off for $0.50USD per ticket.  Like King County voting, enter early and often by buying a boatload of tickets.  And then enjoy/judge/marvel at the beer you get.  And the money goes to the club to pay for things like rent and more Sherpa beer or beer ingredients for BotFly or FeBr.
  • Topic - Umm, sure, yeah, there will be one.  But short, and sweet.  Like Finney.
  • Food - yes please!  Bring some food, 'cuz you know there will be beer, cider, mead and stuff that goes well with food.

See you at the Lake Desire Clubhouse on 12/21/18 at 7:00pm!

Dear Beerstock Revelers:

Here is the full info on this years Beerstock
This year Beerstock will boldly take beer, where no beer has gone before.
People interested in participating should coordinate with the Impaling Alers.

Cheers

COMPLETE BEERSTOCK INFORMATION:  (read carefully, many answers abide within)
BEERSTOCK 5060-9 Saturday, August 11, 2018   (you’re welcome, and encouraged, to camp Saturday night)
(Please email Brian at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and share this information with your club members.)

WHAT IS BEERSTOCK 5060?:
In the summer of 2009 Beerstock 5060 was the first, legal get-together of homebrew clubs to share and taste each other’s homebrew and talk brewing across homebrew club lines. Thanks to the passing of Bill 5060, as of July 26th, 2009 it is now legal to have this type of event as long as all homebrew is free.   Beerstock is like homebrew beer fest!

What is up for the next meeting? Good question.  Here are some hard researched facts and statistical analysis.
  • There will be beer. Likelihood is 100% +- 0%. Very tight error bar on this.
  • Style Sherpa is asking all Alers to bring their Kölsch . And this is an off-flavor month. Notice the hyphen. Not an off flavor-month. There will be flavor: 94%, +- 2%. What off-flavor?  Ha!! Come taste and smell and figure it out.  Apparently adding nasty crap to Miller Lite is the only way to get y'all to drink it.
  • NHC final planning. Register your kegs already (see email on this subject and register). 73% +- 10% of total Aler domination.
  • Main Topic - "The IBU is Fake News" and yet has a truthiness about it. Hoppiness vs bitterness vs perception vs physical reality vs unicorns and lollipops. Or it could be something totally different, because that is how we roll. 30% +- 3% we have a topic ...
  • BotFly - Beer On The Fly is next month, pay attention! 0% +- 0% for this month
  • FeBr - Iron Brewer is this month, and it is, ummm, like with special brewing ingredients or process.  I wish we had a scribe to write this stuff down ... 20% +- 3% chance the scribe writes down the FeBr for the next round

See you at the Lake Desire Clubhouse at 7:00pm on 6/15/18.

Cheers,

March has come in like a Lion Red and will leave like Lambic. But, as usual, I digress. Let me give you 3.14159 reasons to attend the meeting of the Alerati on the day before St. Patrick's day.
  • BotFly (Beer on the Fly) - Somebody agreed to brew something and share.  So there! Come enjoy the experiment. And come with your own experimental ideas and be the next BotFly!
  • Irish Red - The illustrious Style Sherpa will be showcasing the luck o' th' Irish.  If you made your own luck bring that down to share as well! Or any Pi or St. Patrick style of beer. Or any beer, cider, mead or ...
  • Competition Entry - I, your glorious source of all things awesome and beer-y, will be giving a brief presentation on how to enter a beer competition.  World domination to follow! A few simple guidelines can make all the difference.
  • General kibbutzing - talking about brew, sharing brew, giving feedback, sharing tips and so on
As always, bring beer, bring food and bring it on.

North Meeting with BREW

Exciting week for BREW!

This month’s meeting on Friday (Feb 17th - time and location on the calendar) has a special guest on the agenda.

Maitreya Dunham Associate Professor of Genome sciences from the UW will be attending to talk about her work with yeast genetic variations and their relation to human genetics. I know what you are thinking, Brian we all know you smell a little funky due to some unknown cultures propagating, but this goes beyond my hygiene and into some cool science!

Our meeting cadence will be slightly different, there will still be beer served at nearly every pause as usual but with a slide show and a following Q&A session to start things off,  I think it’s best to serve everyone a nice glass of “calibration” beer to hold them over. I will pick up a few to share and try to stay within the February theme of sour beers and wild ales genre.

Here is a link to a few of her pages and an article on the yeast strain she discovered

South Meeting with the Alers

Come behold what you have wrought with your reckless and wanton voting!  The new regime thanks you for your support and the first meeting will be glorious and the big reveal of a few changes.

  • Topic - The Overpresidemporlord himself has granted permission for Jon Oppegaard of the eponymously named Oppegaard Meadery to deliver his wisdom to us  ( https://www.opmead.com ).  Or was it the Warlords sweet talked Jon into giving us a honey of talk?  Either way, it will be great talk.  Bring your mead and "Keep Woden in Wednesday".
  • FeBr - Star Anise and Galaxy hops.  Hopefully an out of this world combination. Brew long and prosper and sample the brews refined by the crucible of competition. And be prepared to enter and defeat all challengers.
  • Style Sherpa - Porters and Stouts.  Good time of year to drink and brew these.  And given the broad range and sometimes ill defined differences, Alex will have ample material and beer to guide us.  Like did you know, that it is Russian Imperial Stout and not Porter, because putting RIP on the bottles makes people think it will kill them and they don't buy the beer!  Well, the Sherpa will have truer facts ...
  • Bring stuff - Bring your meads, ports and stouters. Ask around for feedback on your creations. Different folks have different palates and different abilities to perceive. And bring food.  While beer is food, non-beer food is a good accompaniment.

Check out the Impaling Aler's website to see our calendar of events. See you at Lake Desire Clubhouse on the third Friday of the month! That's 2/16/18 at 7:00pm.

Lost Canoe Brewing Company, 1208 10th St, Snohomish, WA 98290, USA (map)

This Friday @ 7pm, Lost Canoe 1208 10th st in Snohomish. Our January meeting has a lot on the agenda. Club night events, competitions, functions and monthly beer styles! Speaking of beer styles, it is winter warmers, spiced ales and holiday libations for this months theme. So bring a beer or two and your personality (or three) and we will see you Friday night!

Impaling Alers:

First and foremost, this is election month. In order to maintain peaceful transitions of power among the Alerati we hold yearly elections. We are an impatient bunch!  The club is only as good as you make it, soooo make it good.  Overpresidemporlord Kehsauce has done an exemplary job of navigating us through some very troubled waters last year. However, His Excellency will not be running for reelection. So consider yourself notified for service!  Elected positions are listed below.

  • Overpresidemporlord
  • President of Vice
  • Scrivener
  • Web Czar
  • Pillager/Treasurer
  • Style Sherpa
  • WaHA Rep
  • Warlords of Acquisition/Event coordinators

The meeting location is at Lake Desire Clubhouse on Friday 1/19 at 7:00pm.

  • Elections - Volunteer and vote!
  • Style Sherpa - The wise sherpa will guide us on Czechoslovakian, Slovenian and Polish brews
  • Topic - Temper control. How not to lose your temper when you lose a batch of beer or a ton of wort.  Wait!  Oh.  Temperature control.  Of fermentation.  I suppose that is also important.
  • Usual Shenanigans - Announcements.  Bring food and beer to share.
