Beer Events

Everyone, we are looking for people willing to bring down kegs or bottles of wine to celebrate at the Lakewood Rotary Homebrew Festival.  Read below for more info or check out the website and if you are interested in participating either contact Mark Emiley or Brandon Horn to coordinate details!  Hope to see you there.

Lakewood Rotary Homebrew Festival

Hello Fellow Homebrewers!

I just wanted to send out an update on the Lakewood Rotary Homebrew Festival.  For anyone who hasn't heard of it yet, it's going to be on August 29th at a private lake near Orting, WA.  (...and if you haven't heard of Orting, it's near Puyallup ...which is near Tacoma.)

In addition to the $1000 that will be awarded in the homebrew competition, we are also racking up sponsors and are going to have a ton of great gifts for attendees.  So far we have donations from Austin Homebrew Supply, Boston Beer Company, Five Star Chemicals, Northern Brewer, WABL (Washington Beer Lovers), White Labs, Williams Brewing, Wyeast, and there are even a few more sponsorships pending.

The competition is a BJCP-sanctioned competition but will have a different format; only beers that are being served at the festival are eligible for the competition.  We are looking for judges so let us know if you're interested.  You get in for free if you bring five gallons of beer to share or are BJCP-ranked and volunteer to judge.

This is a family-friendly event so bring out the whole crew.  Kids and designated drivers get in for $5 (or possibly free - there are a lot of details to work out for an event this size) and can drink to their hearts' content in the root beer garden.  In addition to beer, we are also looking for people to bring homemade sodas - ten gallons will get you or a friend in for free.  Homemade wines, meads, and ciders are great too and those and will get you in as well.

There will also be a classic car show, live music, golf, good food and a few other random activities.  We are looking at having a professional brewer give a presentation for all the homebrewers but haven't hammered out those details yet.  All homebrewers are invited to camp on the property that night.

This is a private event but since we're on the organizational side of things, all homebrewers are invited to come out and share their wares.  We'll have online ticket sales setup in the next week or so if you want to invite some friends.  To be clear, the event is invite-only so please don't post it publicly.

In addition to the Puget Sound area I'd love to get some brewers from the east side of the state as well.  I'll be setting something aside for the homebrewer who travels the farthest to bring beer to this event.

Anyway, we hope to have a great turnout in the first year of this event, both from the homebrewer side, and from a total attendance standpoint.  Proceeds are going to local youth programs in Lakewood.  If you watch the news, you know we need a lot of help down here.

Check out the website (http://www.lakewoodrotaryhomebrewfestival.com/) for more information.  If you want to RSVP for bringing beer to the event, just email me and let me know what you're bringing (volume and style(s)), what club you're with, if you're willing to judge, and if you're interested in camping.

Cheers,
-Brandon
