Beer Events

BEWBC will be participating in Beerstock 5060.  If you are interested in participating, please read on!

WHAT IS BEERSTOCK 5060?

In the summer of 2009 Beerstock 5060 was the first legal get-together of Washington homebrew clubs, to taste each other’s home brew and talk brewing across home brew club lines. Yes, it’s like a homebrew beer fest!

Thanks to the passing of Bill 5060, after July 26th, 2009 it became legal to have this type of event for Washington homebrew club members. This year, Alison & Mark have gathered a choice group of people from a variety of clubs to help organize this event. Brian is helping with emails and communications and his wife Lisa is helping with the Check-in at the event.

SETUP

One booth per homebrew club (just like last time).

 Let us know the size of your booth so we can designate a spot for you.

 Each club is responsible for their own jockey boxes and/or dispensing set-ups, signs, table, chairs, water, ice and shade tent.

o It’s nice for attendees to know what beer you’re serving, so some tape and an easily seen sign is exceptionally helpful.

 Feel free to decorate your booth to suit your fancy.

o There is a prize for best decorated booth determined by attendees.

 Please bring water for rinsing glasses, too.

 Setup will begin between 1:00pm and 2:00pm

 If your club is setting up a booth, please plan to come at the designated set-up time to set-up your booth.

 Drive in and one of the organizers will show you to the homebrew fest area and where to unload your gear.

o After you are unloaded, please move your vehicle to the parking area.

 During the event we must keep the driveway open for a fire lane. Safety first!

 Don’t forget to eat lunch

o We suggest bringing a sack lunch for munching on during set-up. (Rumor has it cheese is good to eat before consuming alcoholic beverages--it slows down the absorption rate.)

BRINGING BEER TO SERVE

Each club may bring as many different brewed beverages as they’d like to share. It is up to each club to organize this.

 You can bring beer in bottles, kegs, or whatever.

 You may bring a lot or a little.

 All homebrewed beverages are welcome

o Ale, lager, mead, cider or even wine - it’s up to you.

It is not required that all attendees bring beer, but taste buds are a must.

CHOOSING THE BEERS YOU BRING

This is entirely up to you and your club. Bring as many or as few as you desire.

o Last time GEBL had so many members who wanted to bring beer, they rang a bell every few hours announcing that they were changing their taps over to new beers.

 Plan to wow and impress and be wowed and impressed. :-)

THINGS TO BRING

 Please bring something for the pot luck dinner.

 If you want to rest your haunches while you savor a brew, bring a chair.

 You’ll want to bring things like sunscreen, bug spray, tent and warm cloths for the evening.

 Bring any water or non-alcoholic beverages you’d like to drink.

o Please, bring your own rinse water.

 Don’t forget to bring items for the Brewing Garage Sale.

 You'll need cash for various things such as the Garage Sale, T-shirts, etc. (No one at this event accepts credit cards.)

 You will need to bring a flashlight and battery powered lighting for your booth at night.

o Ace Hardware has round, battery-powered, hanging LED lamps that illuminate a fairly wide area. Things like this will be needed.

 There will be a little light around the band, but your taps will need to be lit by you.

 The band will be using the only electricity available.

RULES

Each attendee must be a Washington homebrew club member.

 Each club member may bring just one guest, such as, a spouse, partner, designated driver, homebrewing intrigued friend.

 All attendees must be, at least, 21 years old.

DOGS

Friendly dogs are welcome at the park as long as you keep them with you, on a leash, and scoop their poop.

 Bring your own plastic baggies for poop scooping

 As owner, you are responsible for their actions, well-being, and enjoyment of the event.

TRASH

Trash cans are available in various locations around the event.

 We will have cans for Trash, Recycling, and Plastic Silverware.

SIGN-IN

Please check-in as soon as you arrive.

 In the middle of the event area will be a sign-in booth.

o You will see it as you approach the event from the parking area.

 You will receive a Beerstock 5060 taster glass, a nametag and a ballot.

 You will need to sign a short waiver stating your club affiliation, that you are at least 21 years of age (bring your ID) and various other safety details.

 The waiver will be emailed to all club reps so that they can let their club members know what are the do's and don'ts.

COST TO ATTEND

To keep this legal, Beerstock 5060 is an invitation only event that is sponsored by Washington homebrew clubs.

 We are asking each club to collect an in-kind donation of $15.00 per person.

 Your club’s Beerstock Representative will collect money from members and donate it to the event.

o We cannot require that all attendees donate.

 We are excited to announce that we will once again have glass taster glasses with the Beerstock 5060 logo provided to all who attend!

 At the suggestion of previous attendees, we are going to rent extra porta-potties

o One will be reserved just for use in the morning.

 There will be lots of chances to win beer related prizes and swag.

 The park rental fee, glasses, breakfast, printing, plates, silverware, gifts, etc. are all covered by the money your club donates.

o Any left-over money will be donated to a local charitable organization.

WEATHER

July is usually warm and sunny so bring sunscreen, however, this is Western Washington so remember to bring warm clothes for the evening and consider bringing an umbrella and water-proof shoes.

 If it’s windy tie down your tent/shelter poles to gallon jugs and party-on.

No open flames or fire-pits allowed.

 The owners might provide one free-standing fire pot, but otherwise, fires are prohibited.

This is a beautiful, pristine park and we ask that you please leave it as clean as you found it.

 For example, smoking cigarettes is allowed, but PLEASE put butts in a can or ashtray.

HAVE YOUR BEER EVALUATED

This year we have gathered a few, choice BJCP beer judges to wear badges stating that they are willing to give feedback and advice (if needed) on your beer. We call them Free Range Judges. They will be roaming the event, sharing their useful knowledge and service with those interested.

ENTERTAINMENT

One or two bands of homebrewers will entertain us between announcements and samplings with classic rock, to hearken back to Woodstock, the event that inspired the name Beerstock. Please consider donating to the band at the event, since they are performing gratis.

GAMES

The big idea behind Beerstock 5060 is to bring the members of various Washington homebrew clubs together.

 As requested, this year a few games have been created to further this mixing of club members.

 If you have any new ideas, don’t hesitate to share them.

THE GREAT BEER EXCHANGE

This is one of the new events designed to help you meet brewers from other clubs.

 Bring a bottle of your home brew or a favorite commercial beer and we’ll pair you up with a brewer from another club.

 You’ll exchange bottles and tell each other about your beer.

 Anyone showing up with a Bud Light will be disqualified

GARAGE SALE

Back by popular demand, the self-serve garage sale.

 Behind the check-in tent we will designate a spot to place your excess brewing supplies, beer crafts or beer related items for sale.

 Tape an envelope to each item with the price, your name & your full address written on it.

 The purchaser will put their money in the envelope and place the envelope in the slot of a large box, and take their purchased item to their car or booth.

 After dinner, we will have last call for the garage sale and pass out the envelopes to their rightful owners.

 If leaving early, ask one of the organizers to give you your envelopes as you leave. (Must show ID to gather your envelope.)

CAMPING AVAILABLE

You are more than welcome to camp. This is a large park with beautiful, flat, green lawns for camping.

 Don’t forget your flashlight!

 If you think you might be camping, let your Beerstock Club Rep know, so he/she can inform us.

 We need a fairly accurate count for planning the camping area and breakfast food.

 There will be a simple breakfast available for those who sleep over of bread, cheese, HB eggs, fruit and danishes.

CAMPER TRAILERS/ RV’s

Great news! There is room for camper trailers & RV’s.

 There will be maps showing where to park, camp, set-up, etc. at the check-in desk and at the entrance.

 There are no RV hook-ups available.

PARKING

Please, carpool as much as possible. If you have someone with you who can't walk the distance from the parking lot to the event, let one of the staff know and we will let you drop him or her off at the event before you park your car. The event is held in a large, flat grassy area.
