In cooperation with Larry's Brewing Supply, the Boeing Employees Wine and Beer Makers Club (BEWBC) is once again offering an introduction to winemaking class.
This year the class will focus on red wine making with an emphasis on dry red wine made from Syrah grapes. Topics discussed include the principal steps and decisions required to make quality red wine, essential equipment, sanitation, and testing procedures. No experience in winemaking is necessary.
The program is taught over three days. Â Day 1 and 2 (Saturday 8/20 and 8/27) is devoted to wine making theory. Day 3, which will be scheduled post fermentation, will focus on testing and evaluating the student's wine. In addition, the instructor will provide hands-on instruction during grape crushing and pressing, and will assist with post fermentation and pre-bottling decisions.
Students will have an opportunity to purchase quality, WA grapes and proceed through the entire winemaking process in parallel with other's in the class.
Admission for the class is $25 to cover classroom materials and juice/wine testing expenses. The cost of grapes is not included in class fee.
Space in the class is very limited. Enrollment remains open through July 31.
